St. Louis Shag coming to Chicago!




Join Christian Frommelt and Jenny Shirar as they bring St. Louis Shag to Chicago during this very special 1 day workshop.

St. Louis Shag is a 1930s originated dance craze derived from  from The Charleston, and integrated perfectly into Lindy Hop Dance forms of all kinds. The rhythms are infectious, and the shapes will certainly be familiar. Join us to discover this little known Swing era dance form!

Workshop series is open to students of any level, with ‘Shag 3’ and ‘Shag 4’ requiring comfortable working knowledge of basic St. Louis Shag.

Workshops are limited to 60 participants, and will be limited based on lead/follow balance. Wait list will be created when we have reached capacity for either the morning or afternoon tracks and/or lead- follow balance. All wait list participants who are no able to fit into the class will be fully refunded.

Shag 1: Learn the basic(s) of St. Louis Shag, including the essential quality of movement details that give this dance its unique quality. We will also cover kick variations, kick-aways, and back-to-back position.
Shag 2: It’s already time to diversify our steps and patterns with the quintessential crossover steps so prevalent in shag: inside and outside crossovers (fall off the logs), as well as on-beat run steps that give our dance a unique texture and musicality.
Shag 3: Learn traditional sliding doors, transitions in and out, as well as some original innovations of Christian and Jenny
Shag 4: The grand finale of St. Louis Shag! We’ll explore interesting combinations of moves and patterns we’ve learned as well as new rhythms and shapes.

Classes are still available for registration at the door, based on lead/follow balance.
